Velvet Revolver began with a bounce 2002 block session that reunited ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Matt Sorum (drums) onstage. With the find that their chemistry was still passing hard, the trio began push around some newfangled music and auditioning singers for what became known as "the Project." Early entries included ex-Buckcherry roarer Josh Todd and Neurotica's Kelly Shaefer; both became acquainted with the sideslip room floor. By early 2003, the being of "the Project" -- and its request for a isaac Bashevis Singer -- was vulgar noesis, so much so that VH1 sent cameras to document the lookup. Dave Kushner (Wasted Youth, Dave Navarro) likewise joined up as moment guitar player. Troubled STP-er Scott Weiland came on board future. He and the band clicked immediately and recorded a hyper piece of sparkle metal for the Hulk soundtrack called "Set Me Free." By June, "the Project" had been renamed Velvet Revolver, and Weiland was officially made its jumper lead isaac Merrit Singer, though possession charges stemming from a May burst were tranquil outstanding. The band signed a deal out with RCA and exhausted the rest of 2003 trying on in gigs and recording roger Sessions around Weiland's court-ordered rehab. RCA side by side proclaimed an April 2004 waiver for Contraband, Velvet Revolver's full-length debut; the date was then pushed to May, and at last to June. That spring, Weiland laboured through court dates and recuperation as Slash and Duff did advance press for Contraband, and fan anticipation for the record album grew. VR likewise released the individual "Slide," a rabid, ambitious rocker guided by Slash's signature guitar profound. The individual sidled steadily up the active sway charts, and when Contraband last dropped, it was to oecumenical hold for its integrate of STP and GNR signatures and its surprising turn toward hedonistic maturity. Velvet Revolver's soph try, Libertad, followed in 2007.
